Passive Acoustic Monitoring & Hydrophones

Long-dwell power and edge logging for hydrophones and passive acoustic monitoring. Record on the seabed, time-synchronise every channel, and process at the edge so you recover insight, not terabytes.

The challenge

What makes it hard

Passive acoustic monitoring means leaving sensitive hydrophones down for months — listening for marine mammals, vessel noise, or acoustic events. The hard parts are rarely the microphone: it is powering the array for the full deployment, keeping multiple channels time-aligned, and handling the mountain of raw audio. Teams running primary cells face a vessel trip and an hour of deck time to swap batteries every cycle, and deep sites need hardware rated far beyond typical gear.

How RemoteCon fits

The approach

RemoteCon powers the array with rechargeable ANIK packs — depth-rated to 6000 m and toppable in the field from a NOR floating solar panel — so the array stays down far longer between visits. Where the deployment calls for it, AVIN acts as the logger and controller for Ethernet hydrophones, time-stamping every channel with IEEE 1588 PTP and recording to an internal NVMe SSD of up to 10 TB. Its edge AI can classify locally and keep only the detections and metadata, turning months of audio into something you can actually move.

  • Detect at the edgeOnboard classification keeps events and metadata, cutting the data you recover.
  • Depth where it countsRated to 6000 m — the deep, non-cabled sites where recovery is costly.
